Alice in Wonderland, A fantasy chapter book by Lewis Carroll

This book follows the journey of a young girl through her adventures in a land of curious talking animals and other wonders. The story begins with the main character, Alice, sitting by a riverbank bored when a rabbit walks by wearing a waistcoat and reading his watch. Alarmed and curious, Alice follows the rabbit down a hole and finds a world of perplexing and fantastic characters. Once Alice finds herself immersed in a new bizarre land she experiences an array of exciting adventures. Alice dines at a tea party with madmen, she plays croquet with a queen and she asks a Cheshire cat for directions. Alice’s Adventure’s in Wonderland is one of the great works of literary nonsense and could be a great story to teach students to use the fullness of their imagination in their creative writing practices. The poems intertwined throughout the story could also be used as a teaching aid for a poetry-writing lesson. This book is a classic and is full of different ideas that could relate to classroom activities; a classroom tea party would be a must.
